I use this book faithfully with my clientele' due to how much it is broken down to its most minute concept. The homework assignments in it are so easy to follow and breaks down the various illnesses so well such as depression, anger, anxiety and other ailments that client's really have that "AHA" moment when doing the homework. If they don't, they just don 't want to.I have purchased more of the "Dummies" series books and they have helped. Some clients have returned my books in favor of purchasing their own so they could highlight in them and share informatino with familymembers and other.
This book is extremely well done. As an individual trained in CBT, I can say that it is very accurate to the school and methodology. It explains things very well, in a way that is understandable to people who don't know a lot about the field, in fact I have quoted from it in therapy sessions to help explain concepts to clients! In addition it can be useful for working things out on your own, I've found the worksheets very helpful in dealing with some of my own anxious thoughts. An excellent book, and would highly recommend.
Very Informative book, gives clear explanations on the techniques and tools using CBT. Elaborated on each topic and gave wonderful, easy to understand examples. Hits the nail on the head with all the subjects and topics chosen, a perfect table of contents is offered. Once CBT is learned, this book can be used as a guide to review and make use of the techniques. I know I will read this book over and over.
I gave my rating because I found only two errors and I understood everything written in one pass down each sentence and I found my weak areas with plenty of resources within its structured pages. Thank you for making it available in Kindle book format so I can gorge on it and not miss my Facebook notifications. 😎
I think the "Burns" book ("Feeling Good") was better for depression. I got this and the workbook thinking that they might have more information or better explanations... but not so much. There were a couple of things where the Burns book had two or three ways of approaching something (or more), and this offered only one of those methods. And the chapter on depression wasn't as helpful as one would hope. Overall, pretty disappointed. If someone just wanted an overview or general reference for CBT... this may be great for that. If you're trying to solve a specific problem, I personally don't think it's as helpful.
This book is ok: more helpful than a bad therapist, but no where as effective as a good therapist. I’d probably get more use out of it if I didn’t have a motivation problem and actually picked it up again. Catch 22.
This book is awesome! Much larger than I expected in a good way. I just got it, only did chapter 1 but so far it's great. It's very easy to read and understand. I really enjoy how they took into consideration that everyone learns differently and use multiple techniques to explain with introductions in each chapter, definitions, pictures, scenarios, examples, followed by worksheets and quick summaries. Very helpful and never boring. I would definitely recommend!
It's a great workbook, but difficult to make copies of for clients. Wish there was a website to print off the worksheets for those who have purchased the book...
