I read this book the year it was first published (1986). I first heard excerpts from a public radio station. I went to the local book store, I was looked at with pity, "Do you mean Don Quixote,you dear stupid child?" NO I DO NOT! It was as difficult to find this book then as it is now. This book is a classic! I read it twice the first year I bought it, then I wanted to share it. I never got it back. I just recently found this book book again, used. I bought 2 copies. I can't help but share this book again.

This is the first book that I have read by Dayton O. Hyde. I have since ordered two of his other books and look forward to reading them as well.Don Coyote was recommended to me by the folks at the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary. It is a thoroughly enjoyable true story of the author's journey of befriending a coyote on his residence. The author is a gifted writer and he shares honest and insightful wisdom about his love for all things wild. The story revolves around the friendship with a coyote but also shares a much bigger picture--one that shows that we are all connected from the tractor in the fields to the family by the fireplace.Highly recommended for anyone who likes to read a good story from cover to cover.

This is an autobiographical collection of essays about the author's relationship with the wildlife on his ranch, especially the coyotes. He has a keen eye for observing human as well as canine behavior, and writes with a wry, humorous touch about how his love for these animals puts him at odds with his neighbors.Don't hurry through this book in one or two sittings. Savor it, like a good wine or a box of fine chocolates. It's a respite from a day filled with bills, politics, techno issues, and family drama. I can't believe I hadn't heard of this wonderful author before.

This was an erudite, beautifully written, (even poetic), story that took me on a journey the ran the gamut of emotions. While I may not fully agree with the authors stance on all matters contained within, I can empathize with his perspective, but also learn from, and respect that perspective. His life story contained within the unfolding of his words gave me a ground-floor look not only into his life, and coyotes, but also the life of the people who lived, (and live) as ranchers and farmers. I related to his growing love of Don Coyote, and his angst at having to maintain essential boundaries for both their sakes. I was also left with much admiration towards the author for his respect for the incredibly important, delicate, natural balance of nature, and I can only hope that this respect, hard-won lesson, thoughts, and feelings, are highly contagious.

A wonderful book. Hyde made friends with a coyote on his ranch, studied it, and enjoyed it. He got inspired to raise a litter of coyote pups. His intention was NOT to domesticate them as pets, but to study their natural behavior. The only thing unnatural about their behavior was that they were not afraid of the Hyde family. Ine of the puppies/cubs did love to be with Hyde, almost like a pet. But when mating time came, she left him. But most of the litter hung around his 6,000 acre cattle ranch. He found that they kept down the vermin and insect pests which seriously affected neighboring ranches."Don Coyote" is a delight to read, both for its style (often humorous) and its content. The book is a well-supported argument for man not to ruin the environment in the quest for maximum income: such farmers and ranchers end up shooting themselves (or their bank accounts) in the foot. After reading this, we got "Sandy", also by Dayton Hyde. It's another winner

This book is a winner. For anyone who didn't get the best impression of the author from his much later book "Pastures of Beyond" (2011), I recommend giving him another try by reading "Don Coyote" (1986)--and by learning about his work with the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary.

Dayton O Hyde is an incredible wildlife lover as well as a cattle rancher who chooses NOT to mass kill coyotes who are just doing what they're made to do. What a wonderful advocate for living in harmony with our wildlife! Although we no longer consider wildlife ever a good pet idea, Dayton's love is admirable.

My Mom had read this wonderful book long ago. She is 85, and couldn't remember the name of it. I searched for it as she could only remember something about Coyotes on a Ranch/Farm near her birth place, and keeping coyotes alive. Of course I found it on Amazon! She was absolutely thrilled! I cannot tell you how happy this book has made her. She plans on getting copies for others to enjoy and learn from.

I love Norton Critical Editions. While you should absolutely also go on YouTube and listen to Sir Alec Guinness reading this poem, this edition also allows you to dive into Elliot's letters, and really helpful critical essays. It also includes all the notes and references so you can jump down rabbit holes of meaning as often as you like.

This "book" is unreadable. It appears to be a series of PDFs of partial pages and no way to actually read the book. Amazon should be more discerning when promoting products for their Kindle. At a minimum, they should be reviewed for usability.

Literature scholars universally recognize Eliot's "Waste Land" as one of the most influential poems of the 20th century. The poem draws on a wealth of images, everything from classics of Western literature to Tarot cards, from anthropology to Eastern sacred texts. The title refers to the barren land of the Fisher King in Arthurian legend; both the king and the land eventually find redemption through the Holy Grail. Through a masterful use of language and symbols, Eliot brilliantly portrays the problem of meaning in the modern world --- and the way to deeper meaning!Unfortunately, many of Eliot's references are arcane, and not easy for the lay reader to pursue. For example, few modern readers happen to have a copy of Webster's play "White Devil" or excerpts from Shackleton's account of the Antarctic expedition readily available on their shelves. Hence, the virtue of this particular edition: in addition to Eliot's original poem and original notes, this book includes the relevant passages from every single work Eliot quotes in the "Wasteland", all translated into English. For the first time I have seen in print, this book allows the reader to understand this magnificent poem in light of the full scope of its allusions. A triumphant achievement!

I found this edition extremely helpful in deciphering a difficult poem. The notes themselves were sometimes a challenge to understand, however, I have much more insight into Eliot's most famous poem.

I had T. S. Eliot reading The Waste Land, Four Quartets and Prufrock and it was good. Then I found out that BBC had recorded Paul Scofield A Man for All Seasons (Special Edition) reading Eliot and had to have a copy. It does not disappoint. Blew poor T. S. out of the water. As the title indicates the Quartets (based on Beethoven's Spring Quartet #15)are supposed to be verbal music. Scofield manages to capture this quality. Hypnotically beautiful.

Very nice pocket poetry. Would make a great gift for someone just starting to get into poetry.

Many have said this is probably the most difficult poem of all time because of its complexity. It has been suggested that Eliot did not fully appreciate what he had created. This is a work that needs to be read many times. I was introduced to it in an advanced English class in high school. It will stand the test of time along with Shakespeare.

I hated this when I first read it in college. But the professor made it come to life when we covered it the next day. I have a whole new appreciation for this. Recently the professor has passed away, and I just had to re- read it.

This book is a great guide to taking the somewhat difficult ideas explored in Mitchel Resnick's book "Turtles, Termites, and Traffic Jams" and implementing them with students. Adventures in modeling can be used alone but, for any teacher who wants to use this book in a computer class, it is helpful to read the other book first. The activities and challenges here are reasonable for students from college down though middle school. I know of one teacher who has even successfully used these activites with pre-teens.

This book is so elementary and it must be taught at kindergarden instead of learning something such as a Dynamic Modeling.....

I am intigued with and have been trying to explore 'emergent behavior' for several months. I am especially enjoying trying to learn and explore with NetLogo. It is the upgraded and much more capable big brother to StarLogo (which this book is about). The main proble that I'm having is that are no printed books that either provide a good reference to the NetLogo lanuage nor any good printed tutorials. I find the electronic versions good but too hard to use...especially while trying to program in NetLogo on the computer.So I was thinking that this beek looked like a pretty good tutorial on applying StarLogo and, after all, StarLogo is the little brother to NetLogo...so I decided to give it a try. The organization and approach to developing skills with StarLogo are superb and I've enjoyed it a lot. Unfortunately, NetLogo is such an advancement over StarLogo that the StarLogo examples and exercises do not translate well (or at all) to NetLogo. So, in that regard, it was a bust for me.But if you use (or are interested in getting and using StarLogo) then I highly recommend this book. However, if you're interested in NetLogo,I think you'll likely be disappointed.

This is a great book for anyone interested in modeling dynamic systems. The authors provide wonderful background theory as a basis for building computer simulations. The simple step-by-step instructions guide you through the process of creating your own simulations using StarLogo. This book is an interesting, easily understandable beginner's manual and comes with all the software you need. It's a great way to teach yourself or other people how to program a simulation. I love the turtles!

The book is good overall but I felt they need to use more carefully thought out examples and not try to push an 'agenda'.It is as if the author(s) are trying to make an issue over creation vs evolution. In the very beginning chapter, they make an invalid example by comparing evolution vs creation to central control vs decentralized systems. This is a quote from the book, "This tendency to assume centralized control, which we call the centralized mindset, makes it difficult for people to understand the workings of many phenomena in the world. The recurrent questioning of evolutionary theories is another example: When people see complex living systems in the world, they assume that someone or something must have explicitly designed them; instead, these livings systems are the products of millions of incremental changes over time."

The Bell House, by Lori Titus, was quite wonderful. Jenna Bell’s husband dies in a fire that destroys their house, and suddenly her half-sister Diana shows up and tells her that their father left a house on the Bell property to her and suggests that she moves in. But unbeknownst to the reader, Diana has ulterior motives. Jenna takes her up on the offer, and the fun starts. It’s a book with roots back to slavery, but based on modern times. Bell House has a lot of history, and much of it is bad. This book felt like a classic to me. Somewhat reminiscent of the Sarah Waters novel, The Little Stranger. Same kind of gothic feel and subtle creepiness which builds slowly throughout the novel. The character interactions are entertaining and very well done. My favorite was Diana, with whom I was both horrified with and also felt sorry for. The past comes back to haunt you, even when the past was before you were born. I listened to the audiobook version of this novel, and the narration was also wonderful. This is an instant favorite and a tip top novel. Highly recommend.

The secrets plaguing the Bell House are numerous and just as scandalous. The story starts off with the brothers Travis and Jeremiah, the source of their disdain for one another is not disclosed but the tensions and dislike ooze from the pages. From there the sins of the father, carry over to the daughters. Generational curses are just as real today as they were with the father. Following the lives of the half sisters, Diane and Jenna Bell becomes a lesson on hatred and the past. Diane is consumed with hatred that exudes from her skin, she is one nasty lady. She must be a gemini because one moment she sweet as pie, the next a bitter lemon. Her bitterness feeds the darkness. Jenna is the exact opposite, she's confident yet begins to feel that death follows her. The recent loss of her mother and sudden demise of her husband brings her back home to her roots, in more ways than she realizes.The story transitions very well from past to present and back once more. The author spins a tale of generational curses, seamlessly exposing the depths darkness runs in the family's past. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and plot. I would have loved to see how Travis's secret unravelled. However I disliked the formatting, this could be a slight error on behalf of kindle but the first letter of each new chapter is blacked out. The haunting tale, receives 5 stars yet the format and cover only 3.

So, this book was outside my usual reading comfort zone. And by outside my comfort zone, I mean if my comfort zone was New York, this book is California. With that being said, once I started reading it, I found it hard to put down. This was a superbly written, atmospheric tale of long-held family secrets and generational curses. It was visual and haunting (no pun intended), and I would highly recommend to fans of horror tales or ghost stories. You might have to sleep with the lights on for a couple of nights, though. ;) This author has major skills.Author Adrienne Thompson

Every generation has its dysfunctions but with the Bell family comes being cursed as well. I love how the author shows the true evil in the family isn't the people but the spirits that follow them.

I enjoyed the story.since Jenna had a connection with Patricia, I felt that the story could have revealed how Patricia actually passed away.

Enjoyable, but the pacing felt strange. However I loved the characters, they were complex and felt real. Diana was a hard character to deal with, mainly because I know someone like her.

There have been several excellent reviews that list the strengths of The Art of Fermentation. I can only add one thing - the author does an excellent job of citing his sources. I really appreciate that he does so - it allows me to go back and check for new, updated research and expand my reading. I particularly appreciate this in his section on fermentation and health. He adamantly does not claim fermented foods area a panacea and is skeptical of some of the touted benefits of various foods (kombucha as a cure for diabetes, for example). He argues, quite successfully, that fermented foods have their place in a well balanced, healthy, diet and provides the studies, traditions, and first-hand knowledge that demonstrates why.For those who are wondering which book would be the better choice, this book is not just an expanded version of Wild Fermentation. It's a different take on the subject that goes in depth in the process and concepts behind fermentation. Many different types of fermentation using different bases - grains, vegetables, fruit, etc - are explored. Be aware that this is not a cookbook or an introductory text, however. Traditional recipes are scarce. If you are looking for "add X tablespoon of salt to Y amount of cabbage" you will be disappointed. If you want to know about different fermentation methods used around the world so you can branch out in your own culinary experiments, this is the book for you.If you're an absolute novice, Wild Fermentation is probably the better starting place. It gives recipes and walks you through the steps more than The Art of Fermentation. Once you've made a few things and want to know more, the Art of Fermentation will really come into it's own!

First off: this book is beautiful. Hardcover, with a series of full-color plates 1/3rd and 2/3rds through. For only twice the price of a flimsy paperback, you're investing in five hundred solidly-constructed pages that will last.And a good thing, because this book is destined to be a classic.You don't need to have read Katz' other work, Wild Fermentation: The Flavor, Nutrition, and Craft of Live-Culture Foods, to understand, appreciate, and use this book - it stands alone. If you already own Wild Fermentation, don't be put off by the duplication of some recipes in the Table of Contents. Yes, sauerkraut, kimchi, and pickles are in here, but every section is greatly expanded with much more information and many more references. (Ever thought of using a layer of cooking oil as an airlock? Neither had I, but I'm going to try it!)Speaking of references... the Resources, Glossary, and Works Cited chapters could keep you busy for a few years.And yes: you will use this book. As Michael Pollan states in the well-written foreword, this is not one of those cookbooks you buy for the nice pictures and keep on your coffee table. This is a project manual. Fermentation is something you have to experience to understand, and Katz give you absolutely everything you need to get started. The first 67 pages are devoted entirely to the beginner, focusing not on specific recipes but on answering the inevitable questions: "WHY would I want to ferment food? is it safe? what equipment and general expertise do I need?"Again from Pollan: "Katz writes about the transformative power of fermentation with such infectious enthusiasm that he makes you want to try things just to see what happens." This is so true. Even if you don't initially intend to, many of these 'recipes' are so simple and unintimidating (hard apple cider, mead, sauerkraut and its derivatives, sourdough) that it's hard to resist the urge to pick up a box of Mason jars and some fresh produce the next time you're at the grocery store. Many of us are experimenters at heart, and fermentation is the perfect mix of art and science to tap into this nature and inspire all kinds of crazy projects.Already the neighborhood King of Kraut? I guarantee that this book will still have something for you. Chapter 12 - "Fermenting Meat, Fish, and Eggs" isn't enough? Turn to Chapter 13, for a short but serious discussion of what it takes to turn a fermentation hobby into a small business. Notes about scaleup, HACCP plans, and licensing are cool to read about, though I have no plans to open a tempeh factory anytime soon. Or how about Chapter 14 - "Non-Food Applications of Fermentation"? Again, I don't live on a farm, but it is neat to read about compost, silage, and bioremediation. (Surprise: Katz doesn't buy into corn ethanol biofuels)While this is by no means a biology textbook, the scientific content is much improved over Wild Fermentation. Chapter 1 - "Fermentation as a Coevolutionary Force" is, in general, accurate and well-referenced. Katz is not a formally-trained scientist, but he does not shy away from technical details when they are helpful for understanding, and he shows respect for the scientific method and its results. See, for instance, his discussion of 'homofermentative' and 'heterofermentative' organisms in vegetable fermentation (pg 96), or of commercial starter cultures (pg 132).If you subsist on white bread and margarine and bleach your cutting boards after every use, fermentation may not be the hobby for you. The first time I skimmed some strangely-textured yeast off of a crock of fermenting beets, I have to admit I was a little skeptical what those beets would look like when I pulled them out (they were absolutely delicious). While some of my more imaginative fermentation adventures have yielded delicious results, a few have been downright terrible (yep, ate them anyway!). If you don't see any issue with carving a bit of mold off some cheese or a piece of fruit instead of throwing it out, then you probably have what it takes.Many (most?) of the poor reviews on Wild Fermentation are from people taking issue with Katz' lifestyle or philosophies. Many of his philosophical discussions in this book are backed up with hard science and references, so even those who found Wild Fermentation to be overbearing may find this new book to be more palatable. If you have some problem with the fact that Katz has HIV (he states this outright in the new book, and includes a sidebar about how fermented foods may be helpful but they are not a disease cure), do the rest of us a favor and keep it to yourself.I've been experimenting with fermentation for about a year, relying mostly on Wild Fermentation and a substantial collection of online resources. I've only had this book for a week, and I've already had tons of fun and learned a lot. When I'm finished with my read-through, this book will definitely be making its rounds among my friends. A great reference and a worthwhile investment - highly recommended.

Fermentation was frankly something I had little to no experience or interest in until a few years ago....even then it was a slow progression. For health reasons (we're not getting any younger) we started taking an active interest in food - both the quality of the food and the preparation practices. The more we learned, the more we started cooking, baking and making our own food.Bread was perhaps one of the very first things we took the time to make from scratch and soon the bread baking became a weekly tradition. Fresh baked bread is so delicious, warm and comforting. Of course, that led to grinding our own flour and since bread is so much like beer - my spouse began experimenting with home brewed beer and wine and even soda. It wasn't long before something always seemed to be brewing in the kitchen and at least one of us, was quickly becoming a fermentation fan.Over those few years, our diet, shopping habits, food choices and preparation methods changed fairly radically from what we had thought was a decent diet to an all organic, homemade diet with local produce when possible. It was during that time I started hearing more and more about the benefits of fermentation of other foods - but frankly, not having grown up around anything remotely related to food preparation, I had no idea what was/wasn't fermented. In fact, I thought pickles were always made with vinegar and canned - I had no idea they were fermented. Ditto for sauerkrout or oodles of other items. Somewhere along the line, I came across Sandor's first book on fermentation and purchased it. It was NOT love at first sight...in fact, after the first read, I thought it sounded horrible (rotted food?!) and set it aside for at least another year.Then by chance, I happened to taste some REAL pickles..then fermented salsa and several other things that just knocked my socks off. I pulled that book out and decided to give it a try. Low and behold, it worked like a charm!Soon I was buying big fermentation pots and since then we have become regular consumers of fermented products made a home. I then bought the book and video set and several other books on fermentation...in fact, by this point, I probably own most of the major books about fermentation. So, when this came up as an advanced order option, I purchased it right away although I wasn't sure what to expect. It was delivered early and right from the start, it is obvious this book is MUCH larger than previous books. It provides a exemplary overview of fermentation from both a historical perspective as well as current uses around the globe. The information expands upon the understanding of fermentation in a dramatic way. It's both interesting and informative. Without a doubt, it's one of the best books I've read on the subject and I've read a LOT of them!Now, if you are just wanting an introduction to fermentation with a few quick and easy recipes' and examples, the older books by Katz are probably still your best choice. On the other hand, if you are a person that likes to understand a topic in depth when starting something new, this may be more to your liking.Existing fermentation fans will ABSOLUTELY want to purchase this new book for the expanded knowledge, information and insight. But in finally reading the book, Campbell has helped me understand much better some of the ideas that I’ve been working out in my weekly “Books of the Bible” review posts. If you’ve read any of my recent Bible book reviews, you’ll immediately recognize that Campbell has already clearly written what I’m still trying to figure out for myself. For example:“For the symbols of mythology are not manufactured; they cannot be ordered, invented or permanently suppressed. They are spontaneous productions of the psyche…”Powerful stuff.Here are the rules governing the first great stage of the adventure story (some of it is paraphrased in my own words):The Call to AdventureInitial Refusal to Heed the CallSupernatural Aid/Mentor/“Old Man” (Old man is a direct quote from Campbell.)Crossing the First ThresholdBelly of the Whale (The Point When the Hero’s Death/Ultimate Failure seems Certain)Truly, Exodus would have been the perfect story to compare with Campbell’s ruleset, but I just wrote a review of Exodus last week, so I wanted to do something different. The Karate Kid might just might be the most perfect modern example of them all (and one of my favorite movies). So I thought it might be interesting to see just how closely the writers of this movie follow Campbell’s rules.Young New Jersey native Daniel is called to the great land of adventure (California) by his mother. He hates it there (his initial macro-reluctance to heed the call) and would like nothing more than to move back home. The only saving grace (besides a pretty girl) is a mentor (Mr. Myagi) that he meets when he arrives. After getting into some trouble with the local bullies, Daniel’s mentor signs him up for a karate tournament. Daniel is mortified and has no faith in his ability to survive a karate tournament like that (Micro-reluctance to Heed the Call), “I cannot believe… what you got me into back there!”But Daniel does as his mentor says and enters the tournament anyway (Crossing the First Threshold), where he manages to make it to the semifinals, further than he ever dreamed, before even hitting a snag. When he gets there, young bully Bobby cheats in a most despicable manner, kicking Daniel directly in the knee, damaging Daniel’s body seemingly beyond repair (into the Belly of the Whale, i.e., Daniel’s ultimate defeat seems certain). But just as soon as all hope is lost, Daniel’s mentor heals his leg through supernatural methods and Daniel comes back to win the tournament, his dignity, and the girl. Indeed, it’s a Hero’s Journey almost worthy of Moses.Note: There are other rules and further stages to the story that I haven’t included in this short review, but it seems to me that these are certainly the essential components to the modern story. Maybe some other time, I can write about the further stages and which stories they apply to (Lord of the Rings comes to mind).My final say on this book is as follows: If you’re a student of religion, mythology or philosophy, or if you are a writer (whether of music, poetry, or fiction), read this book. How Does It Feel to Be Unwanted?: Stories of Resistance and Resilience from Mexicans Living in the United States by Eileen Truax puts a human face on the Mexican immigrants that are the subject of so much debate and fill our nightly news.First off, if you are a staunch Trump supporter and prefer not to read any criticism of the current administration, this book is not a good choice for you. The author is highly critical of current immigration policies with regard to Mexicans (and other non-Caucasian immigrants.) However, if you are interested in the reasons why these immigrants leave everything behind for a tenuous life in the US, this is a compelling look at the lives they left behind and the lives they live now.I live in Texas and count many Mexicans as friends. Some are citizens and some are undocumented. I freely admit that living so close to the border and having spent time in Mexico, as well as living in a large city that is 60% Hispanic, I am extremely sympathetic to the plight of Mexican immigrants. The stories put forth in this book paint a very accurate picture of the racism Mexicans face all too often, regardless of their legal status.Many of the passages are hard to read. It really brings home how it must feel to come to a foreign country in search of hard work to better care for your family. You expect to be very poor at first because you will save every cent you can to send home to your family. You expect to work very hard for meager wages (regardless of your education or training in Mexico). You expect to live in fear until you are fortunate enough to gain legal status. What you don't expect is the intense hostility Mexicans often encounter from ordinary people they come across in daily life. The title centers around this - How does it feel to be unwanted?This book reminds us that a significant portion of the food we eat is picked by Mexican hands. Many of the homes we live in and the landscaping around those homes and the fences that surround that landscaping were crafted by Mexican hands. Much of the food we eat in restaurants, particularly in the South and California, is made and served and cleaned up by Mexican hands. And here in San Antonio, many of the doctors and nurses who care for us, the attorneys who defend us and the police officers who protect us are of Mexican descent. This is a fine opportunity to get to know the challenges facing these people we depend upon so much.No matter how you feel about the issue of immigration, this is an authentic look at what it is to be a Mexican living in the US.

There are many very important and moving stories in this short volume, but this would have been better as a series in a newspaper or a long journalism piece in a venue such as The Atlantic.Why?This was clearly written in response to some of the most egregious actions early (and continuing) in the Trump administration but the immediacy of the content has already made it seem dated at times because, after all, how can one keep up with "what will happen next" in the current political climate.Another problem with the book is that, while there are many excellent sections detailing what it is like to have to live within the shadows of our ongoing immigration/citizenship mess, Truax spent an inordinate amount of time focusing on activists who may or may not represent the "average" undocumented population. Especially in the early sections, these backstories of activists may well turn off the very people who need most to read further. These stories of ordinary immigrants, living day to day while they try to make better lives for themselves and their children: these are what the author does best but they may get lost in the author's partisan rants.To be clear, I am in full agreement with Truax's concerns around the uncertain and uneven enforcement of ever tightening laws. I just wish that she had focused more on the people and less on the politics. As it is, this may well end up being a book that will only "preach to the choir" instead of reaching the broader audience that needs to begin stepping forward to help those caught in this almost impossible bind.

The author does an excellent job of putting to reader in the shoes of an undocumented worker. She does this through the lens of multiple viewpoints as expressed by those who have, and are living it. There's one undocumented human being that lives in a hundred mile borderland and can't venture outside; there's another who becomes an immigration lawyer; yet another who exemplifies the sanctuary city and ends up on the Times list of one hundred most influential people; and there are many others who drive the author's human message home.But I'm also concerned with the reason this problem exists on such a grand global scale. In fact, some believe that a faction of the Deep State is weaponizing immigration. Still, it is globalization; specifically transnational corporations that want cheap labor, and immigration is but one of many tools that accomplishes this goal - within in a multitude of other elitist goals - that benefit the few at the expense of many. The author doesn't address this; as her both sides of the story, are not all the sides. Indeed, from my perspective: either the super elite become part of the people; or, the people become serfs to the super elite.The author does well in endearing the reader to our undocumented human beings; a touching glimpse into their heartbreaks & hopes.

Ellen Truax the author, did many interviews with the undocumented Immigrants who crossed the Southern Border. In the back of her book is section, "Notes" where she identifies where she got the facts and figures that are in the chapters.Much has happened since this book was written but it still gives the reader a greater understanding of why the people are leaving their country for United States.Written in a scholarly fashion, the voices of the immigrants definetly come through. This does not pretend to give he other side of the story and might anger some of the supporters of the Trump administratuon. There are negative criticism of the immigration policies so the reader needs bare in mind the true focus of this.I have learned much more than I knew before reading it so I highly recommend it to anyone to wants to learn more of why they come, how they struggle and survive.
