I have a Boston Terrier I got him after he was considered an "adult" I never got to see him as a puppy. This calendar is amazing as I can see now what he would have looked like as a puppy. He is already the apple of my eye I can't even imagine how adorable he would have been as a puppy so this calendar gives me a little glimpse of what my big guy would have looked like. Also the calendar is super premium I really got a good value for my money thanks for making such a wonderful product. Love live the Boston Terriers...just don't tell my MinPin that he might get jealous *giggles*

Kemp's approach to the study of Leonardo offers a unique and insightful perspective into the man, that I haven't found elsewhere. When I've looked at some of Leonardo's works I have wanted to know what and how he saw, and then processed, the world around him. Kemp's delving into those creative processes, whether artistic, scientific or in his note-writing, gives me a better idea of how the artist accomplished all he did. In fact, Kemp's approach to Leonardo is a bit like Leonardo's approach to his creations. A well-written read for those who want to better understand how Da Vinci worked.

I was looking forward to this book based on Professor Kemp's reputation and some of the glowing reviews this book has received.Unfortunately I tend to agree with what another reviewer described as Kemp's "not fluid" writing style. I would add that I found the book a "dry" read, almost technically put together, in an academic sense. It reminds me of a college textbook.I do not for one minute doubt Kemp's credentials and knowledge of the subject.Where he failed is to recreate, as every good biographer should, the nuances of the subject's personality and effect of his surroundings on him and vice versa.Kemp goes into much technical detail about what he perceives as Leonardo's approach and philosophy, exhaustively details his various surviving works, but provides far too little in terms of what a biography should be; it fails to recreate in the reader's mind Leonardo's world, interactions, passion and the aura of the great Leonardo da Vinci. It gets to the point where I get the feeling Leonardo was a prolific machine, not a passionate artist.5 stars for Kemp's effort minus three for failing to do Leonardo justice.

Just a fair biography. Too much emphasis on how he earned money. Didn’t delve into his personality as I expected.

Thought I was getting a biography. This is more about Leonardo's methodology than a biography of his life. A good book but not what I expected.

Great book overall, and very easy to understand compared to other art history books I've read. The book also feels very nice, kind of like a thick magazine of sorts. Definitely worth buying and very informative about how Leonardo thought.

Its not an easy read, very technical and dry

This is an excellent historical biography on Leonardo da Vinci. The book is solid facts one after another, mostly taken from surviving documents such as financial transactions and Leonardo's notebooks. The downside is that if you are reading this book for the sake of reading a good book, it can be a tad boring. The writing style is not fluid, perhaps a little choppy at times, since it is so fact-oriented. If you want to know the cold hard facts about Leonardo, this is the book for you (like for a research project). If you are looking for a good read that is a little more subjective you might not like it as much.

Bought this book for a BS nursing program. I don't usually write reviews for textbooks, but as a book lover, I have to give compliments when they are due! This book is very progressive regarding its content and perspective. After so much of the same content in nursing school that dryly proclaims the importance of leadership and contributing to the profession, I frequently found my eyes widening while reading this book. Somehow, the authors consistently, boldly, and beautifully call for and describe the transformative leadership that is so needed in nursing today. I can't put my finger on what it is, as I have not read the entire book (we were assigned sections)––but I just kept thinking, "Wow, I've never seen it said like that (in nursing). That's awesome!" This book is relevant, well-written, and full of paradigm-shifting inspirational material.

I purchased this book as a requirement for a leadership class.The typeset is light blue and unusually small.This made the book difficult to read.I usually purchase my textbooks as Kindle versions; however, when I purchased this book in August the Kindle version was not available.I would recommend the Kindle version as a opposed to the paperbook version of this book.

I'm taking a star off because this book is almost entirely made up of quotes from other authors. If you were to remove all text that is between quotation marks, it would only be 5 pages long. The back to back quotes make for hard reading and I would have preferred more original text from the author.

Do not spend money on this. I've never seen anything more crammed with meaningless cites--no quotes, no bullets, nothing to tell you exactly what it was that the reference author was saying. This book violates every law of academia writing and is full of half truths and implied associations with famous, reputable authors. Case in point:". . . Many creative, motivated, and enthusiastic individuals thrive on chaos and are most successful in their personal and professional lives, despite the incredibly confusing climate in which they function. Hawking (1987) views this uncertainty as opening the way to randomness and unpredictability that are perceived by many as refreshing."The authors, Sheila Grossman and Theresa Valiga have the unmitigated gal to cite Stephen Hawking in A Brief History of Time. I sure as heck do not recall reading any such drivel, paraphrased or otherwise, in that book. Grossman and Valiga list A Brief History of Time as published in 1987---it was not published until 1988!In the opening paragraph of Grossman and Valiga's chapter six, a chapter dedicated to masculine vs feminine management styles (don't get me going on that topic--this book is a turd if ever I've been forced to read one) they carry their perplexing and misleading habit of plastering you with meaningless citations to a new all time low:"Most studies about leaders and leadership focus on men and the male perspective. Although this information is valuable, and much of what we know about leadership--the need to have a vision, the reciprocal relationship between leaders and followers, the willingness to take risks and so on---has broad applicability, it still is rooted in a masculine framework. A growing body of literature, however, notes differences in the ways women lead (Austen, 2002; Babcock & Laschever, 2003; Felder, 1996; Gordon, 1991; Grunswald, 1992; Helgesen, 1990; Kaufman & Grace, 2011; Keohane, 2010; Klenke, 1996; Kram & Hampton, 1998; Lambert & Gardiner, 2009; Lipman-Blumen, 1992; Long, 1998; May, 2001; Melia & Lyttle, 1986; Paludi & Coates, 2011; Rosener, 1990; Salas-Lopez, Deitrick, Mahady, Gertner, & Sabino, 2011; Schein, 1989; Sylvia, Grund, Kimminau, Ahmed, Marr & Cooper, 2010; Yudd, 2010). Because most nurses are women, understanding gender perspectives in leadership is an essential area of exploration."Now tell me what was the point of plastering those three sentences with 20 cites?This book is a useless turkey that should not find its way into the classroom or boardroom. It buries the few good points it might have other wise made with ten chapters of drivel and the so called annotated is only a partial list of the references, so still no clue what these two are babbling about most of the time. Oh and most of the book's references are as old as I am.

The text is pretty redundant and it's all in paragraph form (no bullets or lists), so it's difficult to reference points of the text. There were a few good points buried in between the repetition and filler, but they were few and far between.

Easy to read

Had to read it for school, the book of a million different ways of saying the same thing over and over.

IF you really struggle with reading comprehension on GRE, this will help you-- with a caveat: You need lots of time to study. Looking this over in one weekend will not work, and it doesn't matter how impressive the book is if you don't do really intense studying. That being said, if you're willing to put the time in, this book is a wonderful resource.

With the GRE selections being presented only on a screen, this volume very effectively guides you to break down passages and quickly address the questions. I only took the GRE once. The tips in this book helped me get a 166 on the verbal section. I highly recommend this.

I needed access for the online prep exams, and buying this totally worked. Saved me about 15 bucks over paying for the practice exams directly on their website. BTW, just took one of their tests and it is very good, very similar to the PowerPrep put out by ETS, though I doubt these are adaptive like the official ones seem to be.

The Manhattan Prep series goes over the fundamentals of the GRE, but it does not have the same level of difficulty as the real test. I was really happy with my results while studying these books but got frustrated doing the genuine sample tests...

I'm halfway done with reading this book to study for the general GRE exam. The explanations for the correct answers for the short and long passages are clear. However, I like the overall strategies presented in "GRE for Dummies" better than this book. I think you'll be best served by having multiple study sources than only having one book.

It is a very helpful textbook to understand how problems are solved in GRE. For me, all the Manhattan Prep books for GRE became my bible. There are a lot of exercises for you to do and a very detailed explanation for each of them.

Best book for reading comp. Better than Kaplan and Magoosh

I can't praise these books enough! Can I give a 6th star? They are so easy to read and the techniques are very easy to pick up and use. I bought three of the Manhattan Prep books in preparation for the GRE, but I primarily used this one because I struggled the most with verbal passages. In fact, I struggled a fair amount with the English section in general, but with the use of this book and a couple other resources (GRE Vocab Capacity, Manhattan Prep Advanced Words Flashcards), I got in the 80th percentile on the GRE Verbal section. These books had the right strategies for me, and I highly recommend them to boost your GRE score. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

About the Author

Karen Konnerth is a visual storyteller who has shared both stories and storytelling opportunities worldwide with children and adults through puppet theater performances, puppet workshops, and arts integrated school residencies. She is arts integration specialist, with countless hours logged developing, implementing, and refining projects on themes varying from reading comprehension strategies, to The Great Migration and the Harlem Renaissance in a wide variety of schools and educational settings. Educator workshops include presentations at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and for the U.S. Embassy English Language Specialist Program in Central America, Asia, and the Middle East. Karen was awarded the 2011 Puppeteers of America Marjorie Batchelor McPharlin Award for contributions in the field of education. She also initiated and directed the puppetry component of the Teen Docent Program at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, awarded a 2015 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award.

Karen's book using project based learning through puppetry is easy to use -- taking the classroom teacher through lessons that are innovative, motivating, and well-based in pedagogy. My favorite part was the different assessments that teachers could use right from the page. I am an Arkansas A+ Fellow, on the Arkansas Arts Council Touring Artist Roster as well as Arts in Education roster, and past president of Puppeteers of America. I recommend this book to any teacher who is interested in constructivist, inquiry based teaching.

Any way that you can facilitate learning in children is a plus! To use a sock....a sock!, mind you is brilliant. Ms Konnerth's love of learning and children shines forth on every page. A must for every educator..an absolute must!

I am completely enjoying this book (2/3 through it)...but feel compelled to write this review as it relates to the Kindle Version only. There are many photos, documents, and other interesting contributions in the book that cannot be seen well (or at all) in the Kindle version. They are all WAY too small to be viewed/read/enjoyed and cannot be enlarged (even if the text IS enlarged). It's really a shame, as these additions seem to add a lot of charm to the content and the nature of the book. I would strongly recommend this book - only in the paper version and NOT the Kindle version. Getting the Kindle version is sort of a rip-off because you miss out on all these great pieces that were intended by the author for the reader to enjoy.

I'm struggling to understand how anyone could like Poehler less after reading this book. I appreciated her honesty in a lot of ways-- Poehler came off as a friend telling me stories and giving me advice, not as a comedian, which was fine by me. Perhaps it's because I didn't go into this book with any real expectations, but I didn't find it even remotely disappointing. I appreciate that Poehler understands that female comedians don't have to be self-deprecating to be funny, as I feel like a large part of the current female comedians have fallen into that pattern.Furthermore, with regards to name dropping and discussions of a privileged lifestyle-- you're reading a celebrity memoir? She's discussing her daily life, and as she's a celebrity, she has celebrity friends and a more affluent way of living. I don't know what you were expecting, frankly. "Please write me stories about your life, but don't tell me about your friends or your lifestyle, just tell me the painful things like your divorce!" That doesn't make any sense.I loved this memoir. It was full of cute anecdotes, and funny little things. I appreciated it, and I appreciate Poehler.

I enjoyed that the audiobook was spoken by Amy herself, it allowed me to hear how she wanted me to read her book.I didn't go into the book with any expectations, but still felt a bit disappointed. There was comedy in there, but not as much as I had liked. Much of the beginning of her story was about her being pregnant, her childbirth, her being a mother: which was not an issue, it was just 3 - 4 chapters in a row that I finally was like "can we change the subject already?"The guest readers were a nice touch, but felt they may have been thrown in there haphazardly: Seth Meyers chapter, to me, didn't need to be there.Organizationally it was a little all over the place. References from pre and post SNL life kept alternating at different times and I was sometimes confused. This isn't a major issue, just something I noticed.I am glad I listened to the book versus read it. I do think it made a difference.

Amy seems kind and hilarious. But, yet, also comes across as domineering and judge-y. Maybe she is just so transparent that we are getting a good dose of who she really is- flaws and all. And, I would never say that’s a bad thing. Like I have found with tons of memoirs lately, this one lacks a certain level of vulnerability which makes me wonder why you’re writing a book about yourself if you’re gonna leave out some of your depths. You can tell she values privacy and boundaries with strangers which is great! But.. again.. then what’s with the memoir?I think she’s great. And this was basically an enjoyable read. Not sure I would recommend this one first off to other people though.

I have been a fan of Amy Poehler for awhile now. I enjoyed her on Saturday Night Live, watching and rewatching Parks and Recreation, and I love anything she does together with Tina Fey. I love to read and she wrote a book, so (bibliophile that I am) I bought a copy.I am generally not a huge fan of autobiographies, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I laughed out loud (obviously, the woman is hilarious), I enjoyed the personal photos she shared and the tales of how she got to be where she is today. She is an inspiring woman and it was interesting to learn more about where she came from and just how very human she is. I also enjoyed the anecdotes about her early days and it was cool to look up her old stuff online (the Upright Citizens Brigade and Andy's Little Sister bits were particularly enjoyable). It's a good read about an interesting woman and I'm happy to have it in my collection. More Amy Poehler? Yes, please!

I really enjoyed reading this book. Amy is inspiring, smart, generous with her support and praise of others, and clearly loves her family. You can tell what an enormous, open heart she has. I particularly appreciated that she was strongly, yet kindly, protective of her marriage and its end- clearly putting her children first instead of going for the disgusting easy-sell tell-all style memoire. As a woman, I see her as a strong role model for how women should treat each other and ourselves. Yet again, Leslie Knope delivers a gem!

Up front, Poehler writes about difficult writing a book is and how much trouble she was having. It shows. Which is a bummer because I'm a huge fan of her work.There doesn't seem to be anything threading each chapter together and the book offers very little insight into creativity or her personal development. So it's not a memoir or an advice book, really. Kind of just reads like a book of journal musings and none of them are particularly interesting.

I could not put this book down! Amy does not disappoint. She has a heart of gold and keeps you laughing and sometimes crying at the same time! I didn't know how much I loved her until I read this book. She's sweet, smart, funny, a women's advocate, a great mom and the list could go on and on! Yes, there is some fowl language, but I still would be proud for my daughter to read this!

About the Author

David Luke, Ph.D., is a senior lecturer in psychology at the University of Greenwich and a guest lecturer at the University of Northhampton. He has published over 100 academic papers on transpersonal experiences and altered states of consciousness and regularly gives public lectures and conference presentations. A cofounder and director of Breaking Convention, a biennial international conference on psychedelic research, he lives in East Sussex, England. Rory Spowers is an ecological writer, filmmaker, and author. He is the founder of The Web of Hope, a UK charity and ecological education resource, and the creative director for the Tyringham Initiative. He lives in Ibiza, Spain.

Man, I wish I had been able to attend in person the gathering that gave rise to this book. Instead I was visiting and participating in San Pedro ceremonies at Chavin in central Peru which inspired me to write my book 'Long Road to Chavin' (Amazon 2018). Short of actually attending the gathering it is gratifying to be able to read this account of talks and dialogues between some of the world's leading researchers in the field of plant spirit medicine. I enjoyed every chapter and recommend this work to all interested in questions of ultimate reality, disincarnate spiritual beings, shamanism and natural healing.Really fascinating reading!Martin StevensTarapoto, Peru

Get the book. Trust me.Sprung from a 2014 gathering in the UK of like minded researchers and explorers, the Entheogenic Plant Sentience Symposium was a conference I wish I’d attended. Now thanks to Luke and Sprowers, we can all bend space time and join the party via the written pages.The publication features a lengthy list of luminaries including Dr Rick Strassman, the researcher behind the popular film DMT: The Spirit Molecule, culture hawk Erik Davis, chemist Dennis McKenna, the great Graham Hancock, Amazonian anthropology expert Jeremy Narby, the renowned Rupert Sheldrake and many more.Plant teachers have been with us for eons. Biblically speaking, Mose’s burning bush showed that while undergoing chemical change, a plant can produce an atmosphere in which communication and teaching can transmit. Perhaps this shrub of destiny was a cousin of Acacia nilotica, the foliage Graham Hancock refers Dennis McKenna to as a contender for The Egyptian Tree of Life in an early chapter.McKenna talks about the visualization and innovation tool the chemical dimethyltryptamine is, describing a common theme “the messenger molecule” shares; intel that includes innovative information in select categories, including structure, architecture and engineering. I’m reminded immediately of the stories about Francis Crick discovering the Double helix structure of DNA thanks to his use the visionary compound LSD.Furthering the framework of DMT with cultural context, Jeremy Narby shared a story about the Ashaninka tribe and their relationship to“maninkari”, a word in their language referring “those who are hidden”. Going further, Narby says that these hidden ones, revealed through the use of tobacco or ayahuasca (DMT being the elixir’s driving ingredient), are also called “Ashaninka” by the people, as the hidden are also a part of the tribe; Essentially, a part of their very selves.Questions of cultural appropriation often arise in these psychoactive discussions. Narby puts psychedelic entities in perspective with the rest of the panel, pointing out while people of the Amazon animism perspective seem to have a jungle hotline to plant entities of all sorts, the experience of “other” crosses invisible boundaries drawn on maps.Skillfully surfing the enchanted waters of outer and inner space, Erik Davis serves up the chemical’s questions in a cup of modern integration, examining its place in the world, whether Western or Eastern in ontology. For the initiate, Davis’ take on the realms of religion, ritual and rite are more than rational observations. Erik is not afraid of the edge and believes Science should share his proximity to the abyss.In a resulting discussion post Erik’s presentation, Davis and McKenna swap stories about the Invisible Landscape and Dennis’ brother Terence McKenna. It was in fact Terence who entranced this author, via voice mixed with EDM. I first heard TMK on an electronica album being played at a party in the early 90s. His unusual timbre and vocal rhythm drew me close to the stereo, speaking about a schedule one substance humans possess, sampled into a song. Interesting that beyond the space and time, the molecule also communicates thru song at 144bpm.This book continues with biologist Rupert Sheldrake sharing his ideas on systems, organization and morphic resonance, reminding us the East remembers more than the West. He reviews molecular mechanisms of DMT, as well as compounds both shamanically born and those midwifed in the lab, recounting a conversation at Esalen with the famed Alexander “Sasha” Shulgin (godfather of MDMA and hundreds of other psychoactive compounds). David Luke’s follow up discussion mentions Dr. Albert Hofmann’s ( discoverer of LSD ) anecdote about folks dosing with certain alkaloids. Unaware of the cultural implications, they unknowingly had similar visionary experiences correlating to the relative cultures. This confirms both McKenna and Narby’s statements on similarities across cultural boundaries.Graham Hancock presents next. Hancock, like Sheldrake is a victim of TED talk blackballing, the ban born of their respective viewpoints on nonlocal consciousness, which TED reduces to pseudoscience. He regales a tale of trippy proportions, and takes us the on a journey through mythology and mysticism, and expertly weaves the threads of commonality like a psychedelic Joseph Campbell. The domains of UFOs, faeries and the fantastic rival those Terence McKenna, whose spirit is once again raised by this speaker. I’m synchronistically delighted when his conversation then turns to the Francis Crick DNA story mentioned earlier in this piece.While all the presentations from the symposium are well organized and on point, even more entertaining and enlightening are conversations between these beautiful minds, post lecture. The opportunity for these folks to foster discussion with each other bears value for us readers, who have entrained many of these thoughts.Are you one who wonders about DMT and its effects?Do Terence’s machine elves exist? Have these entities been guiding us from the get go? Are they E.T.s with the D.T.s, dosing on our hosting spiritual vibe and taking a metaphysical ride? Are we the droids we’re looking for? This book may just blow your mind with a new theory or two. Or maybe an old one that missed your space time coordinates.In the book, Dennis McKenna says“True science should be about the search for truth, a way to uncover true knowledge about the world.”I don’t know if McKenna is a fan of the X files-I’m arguably more Mulder than Scully.While this book leaves me pondering, I do know one thing.The truth is out there.
