My only issue with this is the descriptors used for the characters. Black characters were just Black, if not also thugs. But the rest of the humans were described more fully, like the blonde frat boy, we don't even get his name until close to the end but I could pick him out of a line up. Please fix that in the next book. If this Detroit is filled with Black people you need to figure out a way to describe their differences.
Oh yeah. Everyone should read this book. Yes, triggers. Physical and sexual abuse as a child in the foster care system. It's more of a mention and alluding, but the book doesn't get deep into those abusive situations that Nora went through... but you still know it happened. And I'm only about 87% sure no one on Earth has been mind raped by a Master Vamp. You'll want to kill him, no worries. But just in case you have been mind raped by a Master Vamp...trigger. Now after all of that the book was still fantastic because Nora is a survivor. Strong all throughout. Wary and standoffish when needed. Fantastic characters. Ones you will absolutely love and one or two ornery vamps that will make you want to murder them yourselves. No it's not a traditional RH but Nora does have a group of men that totally adopt her like a little sister and it's cute. Two of the characters have a crush on her. But Nora is not in any hurry to look into or pursue any of them. Maybe later. Oooooo book two please, husband and wife duo!
Some years ago, vampires killed Nora Jacob's mother, forcing youngNora into the iffy clutches of the Detroit foster home system andgiving her the unwelcome knowledge that "the underworld" exists. Now a young woman on her own, and trying to make sense of her apparenttalents for psychometry and tactile telepathy, Nora must thrust herselfinto that terrifying underworld to save herself from a more immediate danger. But perhaps the underworld is not quite what she thought, and perhapsshe is not quite what she thought either. The authors (it's a 2up collective) call this a "slow burn reverse harem"series, and indeed though we can see the probable harem forming in thisbook, there is no sex. That's a creative choice, of course, but the in-storyreason is that Nora is a rape survivor with serious intimacy issues, whichare not helped by her telepathy turning on whenever she touches anyone. This, and another character's PTSD are treated seriously overall thoughwe can see the start of the healing process.I would guess this is a first novel, and Nora is quite a bit of aMary Sue. Everybody seems to love her, and even the trauma in herlife (aside from the vampire thing) comes from stalker-ish over-love.The first novel aspects also spill over into bits of the plotting. For one thing the whole "the bad guys are pretending to be afraternity that are ripping off parts of a real fraternity's logosetc, so we can catch them if we go to the real fraternity's mixer",just, um, doesn't make much sense. Or indeed any sense, and isclearly to get Nora into a date situation with one of her futureharem. For another, once the bad guys are identified, keeping thembuttered up to find out where the evil ritual is going to be held isalso stupid since Nora has access to a vampire who should be ableto compel them to volunteer the information, and finally, duringan escape sequence, not killing one of the bad guys turns out tobe a problem.. that could still have been easily rectified by..killing him.Still, it was a pleasant enough first effort, and I will probably read thefollow-up when it comes out.
This book keeps me from sleeping. It is 5 am right now while I am writing this review. I love the storytelling and I love the differences between the characters and also their interactions. I had a hard time with new reverse harem books but this one restore my faith in RH. I love the female protagonist. She always has this way of outwitting people that are dangerous to her. I like how the story is not rushed. That there's actually a story on this. I can't wait for the next book.
I never thought I would love trolls this much but Terence! This book was wonderfully devoloped and the characters were amazing. I truly felt for the female mcs struggles And felt such pride when she was able to commit to stay at the end of the book. I felt the best/worst book hangover at the end of this book. If you are looking for an original slow burn that’ll leave you hollering for more you need this book.
Don't Rush Me turned out to be something completely unexpected. The characters are AMAZING! I love Terrance, Oliver, Nick and Parker for all of their uniqueness. Nora is quirky and thankfully she didn't go straight from a traumatic past to a nymphomaniac, it makes her story more real. At least as real as it can be living with a troll under a bridge.I can't wait for the next in the series!
I was randomly browsing when I found Don't Rush Me and decided to give it a chance. I went in with zero expectations but was immediately hooked. Nora is a strong, sarcastic, witty heroine and all the potential guys for her harem are so well written and distinct - which is honestly so refreshing. Anxiously waiting the sequel, and so excited to have found a new author and series to get behind. I initially read this on KU, but I'm purchasing simply because the author deserves the support (and I don't want to forget what a great read it was!)
