Despair, hatred, violence, all in a world where women are treated worse than an unsuspecting bug crawling on the ground, not knowing it is about to be stomped on. Each girl is a shining light and by mere chance they meet each other and become like one, until they are torn apart due to the cruelest of occurrences. The story unfolds as they continue to endure hardship that I warn you is often unbearable to read. While reading the cruelty that is besieged upon them, their endurance shows that their lights do, in fact, continue to shine. There is hope even under the worst of times. Physical and emotional pain cannot break someone.The two young women are raised in a rural town in India where poverty is rampant, customs are adhered to without question, but they see a way out. Determined to help themselves. Their story is very telling of our times today.Told without holding back a single emotion, raging with determination, not hatred, GIRLS BURN BRIGHTER longs to take you to the other side of humanity. To a world where women are treated with respect, where they can be accomplished and not subservient.

"That lamp glowing from within. How had it survived. . . it was greater than her body. It was greater than all else."This book is horrifying, eye-opening, well written, and above all hopeful. It literally made my heart explode. On multiple levels and it is not one you would soon forget.The good: very well written with strong characters and a plot that keeps you on the enge of your seat. Taught me a lot about India and human trafficking- something I was aware of, but knew very little about. The best part is the strength of the two heroines throughout the novel and the relationship between them.The bad: this is an ugly topic with some very horrifying scenes throughout the book. It is not a light read and there are not too many times one will smile (though I did a handful of times). The ending was also very abrupt and not too believable. Seemed like there needed to be at least another 30 pages or so.

This is a powerful and often horrific book about the persistence of the caste system and the status of women in modern-day India. Poormina is the young, motherless daughter of a weaver who constantly demeans his daughter for her lack of beauty and her dark skin. She befriends Savitha, a beautiful young woman of even lower status. Her father is an alcoholic who has driven his family deeper into poverty, forcing her to take a job as a weaver in Poormina's father's shop. The girls' friendship is the sole source of joy in their lives. So it's no surprise when even this is ripped apart by an act of violence. Their lives take disparate yet equally horrific paths. Savitha leaves her town rather than being forced into marriage with a hated man and, in order to survive, gets caught up in the sex trade--and even worse. Poormina accepts her fate and marries a man with a deformed hand and a cruel family that holds her responsible for everything that displeases them. She, too, becomes a victim of violence and sets out on her own to search for her lost friend.The suffering of both women is appalling and stomach-churning, but the reader can't help but admire their strength, cleverness, and persistence. One wonders what they might have achieved in a world where they were seen as equals. In their search for one another, the women cross continents and get the better of the men around them. If I have a criticism of the book, it's that it relies too much on coincidence, both for suspense and resolution.

The writing is exquisite and the book is hard to put down. I was thinking all along, "this will be one of the best novels I've read in a long time." But the last couple of chapters were a letdown: Rushed, forced, with and ending that felt abrupt and contrived.

This is a remarkable book. It is a big book in some ways, taking on not one but two distinctive, powerful protagonists as well as some Big (and troubling) Ideas: racism, sexism, human trafficking, invisibility and marginality, disability. All of that could weigh down a book written by a lesser author. But this book never gets unwieldy or abstract, because down to the smallest detail, Rao’s sentences are perfectly tuned, perfectly economical, perfectly taut. I will not spoil the ending, but I will say that Rao has a masterful sense of pacing and ended this book in a way that steered clear of both pat resolution and limp open-endedness. This is probably my favorite of 2018 so far. Highly recommend.

Coaching Softball Technical and Tactical Skills is written by the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) in conjunction with softball coaching legends Kirk Walker and Mona Stevens.ASEP has been developing and delivering coaching education courses and resources since 1981. As the nation's leading sport education provider, ASEP works with national, state, and local sport organizations to develop educational programs for coaches, officials, administrators, and parents. These programs incorporate ASEP's philosophy of “Athletes first, winning second.”Contributing author Kirk Walker drastically improved the Oregon State softball program when he became head coach in 1994. Walker has become Oregon State's all-time winningest softball coach with a 462-347-3 career record. Each season his team has improved—they've had eight seasons of winning 40-plus games. In 2005 Walker earned his second Pacific-10 Conference Coach of the Year Award after winning the Pac-10 title for the first time. Walker also coached in the Amateur Softball Association, where he led his team to four consecutive women's major fastpitch national titles. Currently he is coaching in the Pro Fastpitch Xtreme Tour. I'll make this brief. There are a lot of books published on this subject and this is definitely one of the better ones I have come across. It is well organized and clearly written. I have coached softball for about 25 years at just about every level. For less experienced coaches, you will surely read things in this book and say, "I guess that does make sense, but it's not something I even thought about." Unless you are coaching at an elite level, there is something here for you. At Amazon prices, I would recommend this book to everyone. I has about 250 pages and you are sure to find something of value to your situation.

I received this book last night and started reading it. I've been coaching youth softball (U12-U14) for 4 years and have coached using the "games approach" (although this term was only introduced to me in this book!) It has a great layout outlining per position what to look for "at a glance" what the common errors and corrections would be. It has some detailed practice plans and as it states - technical and tactical skills. So far it is light on drills, but I have also purchased some books from Cindi Barstow that have outlined some great drills from beginner to more advanced. This would be a great addition to a coaches collection if you are more on the beginner / intermediate level coach.

This book offers a lot of information but it is a dry read. I had to force myself to read it to get through it. I was looking for more drills to do with my players.

I bought this book for my daughter since she is really into softball right now and she loves it. It was packaged well and arrived on time.

I coach high school fastpitch and younger kids in travel ball. I see many coaches who have enthusiasm and commitment but lack a basic understanding of fastpitch ranging from teaching old school technique to not using strategy effectively to inadequate planning for practices and the season. In the technique section it suggests glancing at other parts of the book dealing with sacrifice bunting, hard bunts, slap hitting, protecting a runner and situational hitting.The book has many pictures and little inset boxes that have lists for the key points in the section, referrals to other parts of the book and lists of common errors the players make (and corrections).In addition to the sections on technique and tactics, there are sections on practice plans, planning for a season and coaching in games. The skills taught are very current based on what I learned at NFCA and NSC clinics this winter.I'm not prepared to lock the rest of my books on fastpitch in a closet, but this will certainly be the one at my fingertips both in my office and at practice.

I was looking for a book that would teach me all about Softball and this is it!! This book looks at every point that a parent or coach would need to teach their child the game. What I really like about the book is that each topic it covers is very specific and to the point. I have coached sports for years--Softball for the last 3 years and I learned a lot--very well written. No coach should be without this book!!

I didn’t think this was possible, but I love this even more than The Crossover. This prequel is expertly written as it makes you forget what you know is coming, but is also so very satisfying as it puts some bows on some answers.The writing is phenomenal, but the characters are even better. I love every, single one..yes, Charlie/Chuck, mom, CJ are all amazing, but the grandparents stole the show for me. Granddad is sassy and sweet and tender and tough.You’ll love it.

My 13 year old use to be an avid reader until a couple of years ago when he discover the phone and video games. I got him this book to try to get him back into reading. I thought he woukd connect with the characters, and he certainly did!The author has really done a wonderful job of finding a way to reach young teen men, specially, young people, in general. That push n pull of family ties and budding love is balanced by the underlying coming of age story line. I was really impressed by the book and my son, couldn't wait to see if there were more books in the series.

I bought this book for my 8 year old nefew that enjoys reading, however, I’m so glad I looked inside this book when I received it prior to gifting it. It is a collection of poems that don’t make a lot of sense or age appropriate for an 8 year old. I ordered bc of the great reviews but i don’t agree with them.

My son loved this book. He has to read several fiction books of his choice for summer and this was one of the ones he chose. He read it in 30 minute increments for a week and he would talk to me about the book all the time.

Great series! Loved all three books. I am a recently retired tracing teacher. I highly recommended these books for students who are reluctant to read. Good for the kids who like poetry and sports. They are quick reads also! I can’t wait to see and read what new book for middle schoolers Kwame Alexander writes next!

My kids (now 17,15 and 12) loved the Crossover so I had to buy this book. So far, one of my kids has read it and she liked it as much as the first one. If you have kids that really don't enjoy reading, they should enjoy these books, especially if they play basketball.

This is a complicated book that I tried to read through after listening to Richard Bandler. Both are hard to understand just listening to them or reading them. I feel this would be helpful for someone with advanced training and a coach in NLP, but otherwise the language and instructions are hard to follow without some more guidance.

The book contains some useful content but I find that it lacks an overall structure as well as a good table of content to reflect it. Further, it would benefit from more rigour in the theoretical background behind the exercises which is often absent. I'm wondering if the book as been reviewed at all by an editor as the quality of the language is poor and with frequent grammatical and spelling mistakes. I just realized that the book has been self-published and it shows.Other example of the lack of professional editing includes tasteless and even sexist jokes such as:- about the `size' submodality - "Size matters! Don't believe the girl who says it isn't. If she can't see it..."- about the `change of focus' submodality - "They spoke in words that only they make clear meaning of (you know, women are excellent in that skill - and luckily for all of us, they use it well to educate their men)"This is just two of countless examples of tasteless and irrelevant `jokes'. How can this be in a NLP training book? A book that is meant to be used by professionals?I wish I could be more positive about it but I can't, not after paying 70$ for it.

I found this book a bit fragmented. Reminded me of the kind of hypnotists who use scripts written by others. I'd prefer fewer techniques and a clearer methodology. I am a master practitioner in NLP so maybe I am being to harsh and it probably has its place in the market.

I've read two books by this author, and the writing in both is extremely poor. Not just sloppy and hard to read, but the presentation is so jumbled that it actually impedes the content. Maybe the author doesn't speak good English, I don't know, but this book is sloppy by rough draft standards, and has no business being in print in this state. Having read many books on this subject, there were times when I was already familiar with what he was talking about, and I was STILL confused by what I read. NLP requires incredible linguistic precision to discuss. This author is nowhere close to that. Skip his stuff.Edit--in response to the angry comment below, I reworded this to be nicer to the author.

this book is very confusing of how to apply the techiniques so i no longer have this book if you understand nlp then this book is for you

For starters, this book is filled with grammatical errors. It makes you wonder how "Inner Patch Publishing" would send this to print with so many mistakes. It makes it incredibly hard to read as the grammatical errors are so disrupting. Secondly, the book claims to have been written for people who know the basics of NLP, but even in that case, it feels like you have to be in the author's head to understand him/her. Lastly, a lot of the techniques are repeated or similar to each other. Definitely not wroth it, and a total waste of time and money.
