The Bell House, by Lori Titus, was quite wonderful. Jenna Bell’s husband dies in a fire that destroys their house, and suddenly her half-sister Diana shows up and tells her that their father left a house on the Bell property to her and suggests that she moves in. But unbeknownst to the reader, Diana has ulterior motives. Jenna takes her up on the offer, and the fun starts. It’s a book with roots back to slavery, but based on modern times. Bell House has a lot of history, and much of it is bad. This book felt like a classic to me. Somewhat reminiscent of the Sarah Waters novel, The Little Stranger. Same kind of gothic feel and subtle creepiness which builds slowly throughout the novel. The character interactions are entertaining and very well done. My favorite was Diana, with whom I was both horrified with and also felt sorry for. The past comes back to haunt you, even when the past was before you were born. I listened to the audiobook version of this novel, and the narration was also wonderful. This is an instant favorite and a tip top novel. Highly recommend.
Some secrets can stay buried for an eternity, however sometimes in the deepest darkest crevice of your minds you know they are just waiting for the best moment to exact their revenge. The secrets plaguing the Bell House are numerous and just as scandalous. The story starts off with the brothers Travis and Jeremiah, the source of their disdain for one another is not disclosed but the tensions and dislike ooze from the pages. From there the sins of the father, carry over to the daughters. Generational curses are just as real today as they were with the father. Following the lives of the half sisters, Diane and Jenna Bell becomes a lesson on hatred and the past. Diane is consumed with hatred that exudes from her skin, she is one nasty lady. She must be a gemini because one moment she sweet as pie, the next a bitter lemon. Her bitterness feeds the darkness. Jenna is the exact opposite, she's confident yet begins to feel that death follows her. The recent loss of her mother and sudden demise of her husband brings her back home to her roots, in more ways than she realizes.The story transitions very well from past to present and back once more. The author spins a tale of generational curses, seamlessly exposing the depths darkness runs in the family's past. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and plot. I would have loved to see how Travis's secret unravelled. However I disliked the formatting, this could be a slight error on behalf of kindle but the first letter of each new chapter is blacked out. The haunting tale, receives 5 stars yet the format and cover only 3.

So, this book was outside my usual reading comfort zone. And by outside my comfort zone, I mean if my comfort zone was New York, this book is California. With that being said, once I started reading it, I found it hard to put down. This was a superbly written, atmospheric tale of long-held family secrets and generational curses. It was visual and haunting (no pun intended), and I would highly recommend to fans of horror tales or ghost stories. You might have to sleep with the lights on for a couple of nights, though. ;) This author has major skills.Author Adrienne Thompson
This book was good from beginning to the endThis is my first read from this author but it won’t be my last
Every generation has its dysfunctions but with the Bell family comes being cursed as well. I love how the author shows the true evil in the family isn't the people but the spirits that follow them.
I enjoyed the story.since Jenna had a connection with Patricia, I felt that the story could have revealed how Patricia actually passed away.
Enjoyable, but the pacing felt strange. However I loved the characters, they were complex and felt real. Diana was a hard character to deal with, mainly because I know someone like her.
