One of the best books I've ever read! I have it in my Kindle so I'll have it forever! Laughed, cried, and related so much to the animal itself as my husband & I owned black labs and they are so incredibly smart. One of them, rescued from pound, knew when my blood sugars were too low and would let me know even when I was asleep. He wasn't trained to do this as far as I know. The dog in this book made such an incredible difference in the life of this family. I applaud this organization and learned so much. Kudos to Jason Morgan and his bravery and service to our country which continues on.
This is an usual dog story because it tells you about a Wounded Warrior who gets a service dog while simultaneously telling you the back story about the individual who raised that service dog as a puppy. Jason Morgan revealed much about his heart and soul and his ups and down dealing with the reality of what he goes through to just to survive in life now. I came away with a greater understanding of what such an individual goes through that you don't see when you see someone in a wheelchair. It was an eye opener. I also have a greater understanding of the emotional roller coaster those individuals who raise the puppies go through as they give them back to the organization for professional skill training and then to be given to someone in need. This book should be read by anyone working with, living with, or who knows of a disabled person to better understand the issues they face and who might benefit from an assistance dog. As the author describes, a service dog does so much more than pick up dropped objects. I couldn't put this book down, and I'm going to pass it on to others to do the same.
This story really was difficult to put down. Well told true story that everyone should read to understand what young people risk for us on a daily basis in the US Military. I'll not forget S Sargent Morgan, Nepal and Rue!
What a wonderful book. It's a read everyone should read. What these dogs do for our veterans is awesome. They give our veterans love,devotion and a purpose to live without drugs. It's a book everyone should read. It's just so sad when you have to let your best friend go but that's the true love of a dog not letting them suffer.
Having had the honor and pleasure on meeting Jason,Napal, and Rue on several occasions as a puppy raiser in Texas and knowing Jackie the ultimate CCI recruiter, I loved hearing the complete story of Napal and Jason. Extremely well written to keep your interest. A must read for everyone. God bless you Napal.
This is a beautifully written story about how dogs are trained for CCI use. The whole story is fascinating from the beginning to the end. Learning about how all branches of the service are one as a whole is amazing. The story tells how a disabled person in any capacity can benefit by getting a CCI dog. The love and training between a disabled person is so heartwarmimg. I could read this book over and over again!
I cried and laughed while reading this book. I enjoy books with an uplifting story and this story is very uplifting and inspiring. The excellent work of the trainer's world wide in training dogs to assist with the every day life for people with disabilities needs to recognised. And this book makes you aware that these and many more organisations are out there. Everybody needs a dog like Napal. 😀😂
This was recommended to me by a client when we started talking about rescue dogs and service dogs. The beginning is a little tough to read but well worth it. I have a much greater appreciation for our service men and women and it is truly amazing to see how comforting an animal can be. I have 3 rescue dogs personally and I already knew what a comfort they could be, especially when you lose someone or have a difficult time in your life. They bring so much joy to everyday.
