Rev. William L. Burton, O.F.M., is a scripture scholar. He also serves as a provincial councilor for the Franciscan Province of the Sacred Heart.He was a member of the board of trustees of the Catholic Theological Union and served stints as vice president for mission and ministry, vice president of academic affairs, and a professor at Quincy University. Burton also was director of academic formation for the diaconate program in the Diocese of Springfield and a visiting professor at DePaul University. A regular speaker at the Los Angeles Religious Education Conference and other venues, Burton also has been involved in numerous parish Bible study programs and scripture-based retreats in the United States, Canada, and Rome. He has also served as a frequent pilgrimage guide through the Holy Land, Greece, and Turkey.

I love Father Bill's writing style and how down to earth it is. It is easily accessible for groups of "cradle Catholics" who have been Catholic, and newer Catholics or those who are questioning their faith. It also is good for both young and old as Father Bill's authenticity is shown throughout. A highly recommended read for those who enjoy Scripture Scholarship.

How many of us have the education and years of experience to truly understand the Bible? Fr. Burton is one of the most studied biblical scholars out there. And instead of keeping this knowledge to himself, he chose to write a book to share his knowledge with all of us. What a gift!Abba Isn't Daddy is filled with insights that the lay person would never otherwise know. In the first section, it provides needed context - historical, political, geographic, etc. - about the times in which the Bible was written. Then, in the second part, it applies that context to particular biblical stories and concepts - in order to help us understand the true meaning of what the Bible is trying to tell us. This combination of the Bible, in context, gives us a deeper and truer understanding of the Word than we've ever had before. Thank you, Fr. Burton, for sharing your knowledge with all of us.

Fr. Bill Burton OFM is one of the finest Scripture scholars around. I've attended 4 retreats and Scripture workshops given by him and was stunned by his wisdom, insights, and humor. This book makes Catholic biblical scholarship accessible, easy to understand, and gives you cause to pause and ponder. His insights into the Our Father and the Holy Spirit are eye-openers! A must-read for anyone interested in knowing how to read the Bible!

Fr. Burton’s book is very well written and an excellent read . Whether the reader is a scripture scholar or just an interested layman like me , this book will give you new information and perspective . I highly recommend the book . In fact , I will likely read it more than once .

Father Bill is an engaging writer and teacher. He provides clarity about words and situations in the Scriptures while keeping the reader fully connected to what he is saying. There are no boring or sleepy minutes in this book. His charm and genuine joy in teaching about Scripture pour out as he writes. Father includes personal stories to which the reader may relate to ensure his point is made. As all great teachers do, Father Bill takes the reader from what is known about a passage to what is unknown, expanding the reader's knowledge along the wat. Just a great read!
