I found this book truly inspiring and helpful. The idea behind CBT is that you can change your thoughts and therefore improve your reaction to emotions that you cannot change in situations, helping you with anxiety, stress, and depression to name a few. The book is, like I said before, set up for you to do entirely yourself. The author gives you the background to CBT in the beginning, showing you the idea behind it and helping you to understand the model of it, before giving you step by step how to begin your self practice with CBT, even granting a workbook in the final pages. I had heard of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy before, but I have to admit I didn't know as much as I thought. This book really informed me, some of the things I had come across felt like ah-ha moments. In short, I believe this book will help people connect with themselves on a new level just understanding that some intrusive thoughts are felt by all people and that they don't mean you are a bad person. Wonderful. One of the best books I have read this year to date, and I'm excited to keep up my own self practice of CBT because of this book. I highly recommend giving this a read.
I really enjoyed the approach this book takes. It encourages you to go through slowly, one chapter per week, doing the exercises and really thinking about how you feel and why you feel that way. The book encourages you to change aspects of your thinking and your behavior by suggesting alternative ways of being. A lot of the material proved to be an eye opener for me. It is essential that the reader takes the time to write down their thoughts as requested throughout the book. Take the time to review these notes as you progress through the book, you will learn a lot.
This is a helpful and great book that I really love to read.This book is loaded with a lot of helpful information, tips and guides that I need to know about how to retrain your brain to overcome depression and anxiety. Mark Madison is a fantastic author on this topic.I really enjoyed all the parts of the book. Very informative, detailed and well guided.Overall, it was a great and enjoyable read.
If you suffer from anxiety, depression, ocd, or a general inability to find happiness, this book will help you. It builds a foundation in modern biochemistry and cognition and relates them to all religions and ancient philosophies. I highly recommend this book to anyone who fantasizes about seeing a therapist, but doesn't have the money.
I was surprised by how thorough this book is while still staying about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The book has greatly improved. Great book. Easy to follow Effective! I found this easy to read and full of good information Guide to Retrain your Brain to Overcome Depression.

This book introduces you to the powerful tool that is cognitive behavioral therapy, and it's a great beginner book for those who are exploring cognitive behavioral therapy as an option for better psychological well-being and help in improving their lives. This book was filled with knowledge and was very infornative about topics I had more information on. Highly recommended to help people who have anxiety to better understand and deal with the internal and external triggers that exacerbate their condition.
