What a inspirational book and writer. Danni is a local radio personality in my area and she has always been open and honest about all areas of her life...good, bad or indifferent. She is relatable, funny, kind, honest and REAL. She sugar coats nothing and tells it like it is. I’m so happy she documented her stories in a book to share with all of us. Many of us share some of the same stories and it’s refreshing to see how Danni fell at times and picked herself right back up. It helps us going through hard times to dust ourselves and keep moving. If she succeeded, so can I. She speaks about her childhood, crazy decisions as a teenager, married life, sexcapades, life as a mother and she is unapologetic. Truly inspirational.
Danni Starr is amazing and I have listened to her on the radio for years. It is so exciting to have her on the radio again in the DMV area. This book was clearly written by a passionate, experienced, and driven woman who will stop at nothing to bring about change not only within herself, but in this unpredictable and ever-changing world. Danni put her heart and soul in this honest compilation of her peaks and valleys. Danni, this was awesome! I especially loved your note to your daughters. As a mom, I could relate to your thoughts and feelings, as most moms would. Your stories about racism truly have impacted me. As a white woman who has grown up with a nice cushiony life, you have opened my eyes. When I first heard the one about your makeup artist, I thought, “oh come on, you know she was just angry and meant no harm.†But then you explained it. You explained how it felt from your point of view, a black woman, who is just plain tired of people saying things that they don’t mean. Common sense to most, but like you repeated over and over, people are just not that concerned with things that don’t directly affect them. Sure I hate racism, I wish it didn’t exist. But it doesn’t affect me, so I am not actively walking the fight WITH you. I can’t imagine how that must feel to YOU. Im sorry. I will do better. If that didn’t open my eyes enough, I then heard you tell your story about how “sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never hurt me†is not spoken in your home. I thought to myself, as I know I’ve said this to my son before, she is right! Words DO hurt and words leave a long lasting impact. Why am I just now noticing that this saying is a load of crap? Your audio book made me realize that my cushiony little world needs some adjusting, and I am thankful for that. Thank you for being so honest, open, and real.

I listen to Danni Starr every morning on the radio with the rest of the fam in the morning. When I found out she wrote a book, I just had to read it. I love how she gets personal. A lot of things she talks about in the book such as the relationship she had with her father growing up as well as feeling like she had to change herself in a relationship I can relate to. It took me just a few days to read. Its a real page turner.
I wished I had this book when I was in my 20s because I can relate to some many things in Danni' book. I love how Danni highlighted her struggle with mental health and how she manages it especially in rears to black women who deal with a lot. I can so relate to her work place discrimination stories because so many women of color especially black women deal with crazy situations daily similar to one Danni describe. Love this book and it is a great first book for Danni.
Being a Danni Starr fan, I eagerly looked forward to the release of this book. Amazon had a delay with the dates that they were to ship the paperback books, so I ended up listening to the audio version which was even more powerful. Hearing these stories read in the authors own voice gave a personal touch to the entire audiobook experience. Danni Starr did a great job baring her soul, speaking her truth, and showing the resilience of the female spirit.
